DAY 4 ... On the Road again...

Let me begin by apologizing for the layout of the Blog.  Apparently, my iPad and Blogger don’t get along too well.  Lessons learned...

After a really nice visit with Bob in Kansas, we hit the road at about 10:00 am Central time.  We had a general direction, but no real plan.

We looked at the map and chose a route that would keep us off the big interstate highways.  Then we looked at what there was in the area we would be traveling through.  We found a spot called The Big Well  in Greensburg, Kansas.  It is touted as being the largest hand dug well in the world!  So, we had to add that to our plan for the day.  What an amazing little town.  It has been ravaged by the worst tornado in history!  But the town has rebuilt and prides itself on being “Green”.  Fitting since the name is Greensburg!.  We walked all the way down into the well and made a wish with the penny provided🙂 They even have bicycles you can borrow to ride around the town.  Well worth the trip! And we saw our first buds of Spring!—

This is all that remained after the tornado...

Buds!

Next was the Dalton Gang’s Hideout. There is a small house you can tour, we opted not to do that.  And an old western town facade that appears to host shows - maybe in the summer.  On to the next stop.

Next on our list was Dorothy’s House.  Yes, that Dorothy...from the Wizard of Oz!  We had no idea that Dorothy was from Liberal, Kansas.  (Which she really is not.  Liberal, Kansas, was just the one to claim her.  And here she remains.) This was a bit of a let down.

From here we needed to decide where we would be spending the night.  We have been driving through the prairie lands, we have seen some amazing skies - today was blue skies with some beautiful billowy clouds that suns rays were shooting right through and a storm off in the distance, many silos but not much in the way of rest areas or campgrounds.  Along the sides of the long stretches of road, every once in a while you see some fascinating art!
Windmills!

Our next stop would be Tucumcari, New Mexico which is still about an hour or so away and it was beginning to get dark.  We found the Coral RV Park in Dalhart, Texas and decided to call it a day.

So far during this trip, we have driven out of Michigan, through Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas!  And so far, we are on budget!
