DAY 7... Moving On!

Day 6 Continued...

We ended up spending the night in a hotel in Winslow, Arizona.  It turns out the power steering pump when out on the van and the parts had to be ordered.

Day 7...The beginning of Day 7 will be waiting for the van to be repaired.  We are currently at O’Haco’s waiting for the van to be fixed.  There is a Walmart across the street and a Dollar General next door.  So, we spent a couple of hours walking around and shopping.  Now just waiting....

The saga continues... About 3:00 pm we left the auto repair shop.  We drove about a mile and notice there was still some noise that didn’t sound “right”.  We turned around and went back.  Turns out we needed back brakes!  The staff at O’Haco Tire and Auto Repair was extremely helpful.  They got the parts, stayed late and got us back out on the road about 5:30pm.  While they were working on the van, we walked back across the street to Captain Tony’s Pizza Buffet and had our dinner.

Then off to stand on the corner in Winslow, Arizona!  I have to say, this was not initially on our list of things to do, but after meeting some really nice folks in the National Forest yesterday who talked
about it, we just had to be tourists!

What a fun little place that has been created to commorate what, at one time, might have been just 15 minutes of fame.  Now everything revolves around “Standin’on the corner in Winslow, Arizona” and it was a fine site to see;). And we are enjoying taking in some of the sites along Route 66.  We made a purchase at the little gift shop in town, and what was my change? $0.66!  How often does that happen?  The woman that rang up the sale told us she never had that happen before.

The blessing of the delay, was the amazing sunset that we drove right into this evening as we headed toward Flagstaff.  We drove until dark and we are now at a rest area in Rimrock, Arizona for the night.  This works out well since we went over budget with auto repairs!  And this rest area, in fact the other one we stopped at just before Flagstaff also, are very nice!  The cacti, yucca plants, shrubs and palms are beautiful.  It is a little daunting to see the signs posted all along the walkway warning of poisonous snakes and insects!

Tomorrow when we awaken, we will head for Avondale!
